About Me

My name is Karen Coutts, and I have been a small business bookkeeper for over twenty-five years. Some of the industries that my past clients have been involved with are trucking – owner/operators and small fleets, farming, home renovations, service clubs and community groups, and government-funded agencies.

My bookkeeping program of choice is Quickbooks, however I am also comfortable with Wave, as well as simple ledgers on paper and in Microsoft Excel.

I am also a Clear Writing Consultant and Mentor, recognized by the Learning Networks of Ontario. I received my training from Leah Morris of ABEA in Hamilton, who has been a leader in the field for over thirty years. I have had the opportunity to work with many others on various projects, building my skills, and training other presenters and editors across the province for nearly ten years.

What’s in a name?

While trying to decide on a business name, I wanted something that was personal yet descriptive.

For the personal part, I cast my mind back to my childhood. When I was growing up, we spent a number of years in the rabbit business, and my dad named our farm Heatherhill Rabbitry. He in turn got that name from his grandfather’s farm in Holland, which had been in the family for generations. He simply translated “Heide Heuvel” into English. This name is a reminder to me that we can take the best that our roots have to offer, and grow in whatever direction the sun shines for us.

And as for the descriptive part, Business Solutions is what I offer. Not just services, but solutions. One of my strongest skills is problem-solving - the ability to look at a situation and, rather than laying fault or blame, seek a clear and efficient path to move forward.
